The Militant - The End of this Chapter

Here I shall post relevant information, ideas, and discussions pertaining to the short "The Militant - Introitus".

10 comments:

  1. The Militant - Introitus (Entrance)
This would be the title because it's the first short about the Militant, which I plan to make a short movie (20 mins), then in the future a series and a full lenght-movie. It's a big project. This is the very beginning.
I thought of using "Intro" but it sounds too boring, and "Introit" sounds too borderline with the Mass, so maybe near blasphemy or sacrilege...

If you got any better ideas for the name let me know!

    Possible Tag:
"One wears black because he's dead to the world. The other because his soul is dead. One forgives. The other punishes.
    =-The Militant.-=
Being the punisher has its consequences. Physical. Moral. Spiritual.
    Coming Soon."

This tag is more for the 20-min or full-lenght movie, though.... :-/

Kuvera - This is just a sweet one, but I was thinking of making The Militant - Ave Maria with this song instead... :-/

Raptamei Pi - This one would be nice for intro in some things and outro in others... It would be a nice song for the titles, to leave people thinking...

Ehhh too many choices for music.

Certainly Ushas for the main scene.

I'll post the main premise of the movie, and this would help us find the right tunes. If you got any ideas for music let me know.

I know it's from the same band but these songs achieve the mood and excitement I want for this movie... I do think the movie should win even 3rd place... I'm not going for 1st place, but just for making a good movie that people like, even if they prefer a Broadhead movie or something with more funny parts...

This is just a serious movie. The Catholic Punisher...

  3. Premise:

The time is in the near future, after the fall of the US and Europe, and the rise of a new Government which is hostile to religion. It's the same universe as Lacrimae Mariae, except there aren't Transformers, and Cobra is only alluded to.
The New Government (NG) is beginning to persecute Christian leaders very strongly, prohibiting them to speak against the NG's regime publicly. Fr. Brawn is one of the few that speaks out against the NG without being arrested, but the Militant finds out the NG's plan to arrest him, and so the Militant tries, unsuccessfully, to prevent this at all costs, and finds himself being arrested as well and being sentenced to death.

    Discussion:

For this short, which should be about 5-7 mins, I want to focus on the scene of the Militant (Chris Miles, as in Miles Christi = soldier of Christ) trying to save Fr. Roman Brawn (Roman Catholic, and Brawn as in GK Chesterton's Fr. Brown), MC(Monachi Christi).

The point it to have a Catholic action film with enough action, adventure, and explosions, but also highlighting the philosophical and practical problems/dilemmas that arise when trying to defend truth and the faith through violence.

It's here where I get stuck...
I could do that in a longer movie with lots of dialogues, but I want to accomplish the sense of the dilemmas just through pictures.

Another problem I get is that the movie ends in a tragedy.
I don't care over all if this is the case, unless we plan on winning: people like happy endings.
So I'm not sure if I should end the movie in the implied death of Fr Brawn and the Militant (the irony is that they're both fighting for the same thing but in different ways, and we contrast that Fr. Brawn's death was looked down upon while the Militant's death was longed for)... Or if I should end the movie with perhaps a plan of escape for Fr. Brawn and the Militant.

Yes yes.. It's odd that the very first movie of the Militant is in fact the scene where he's arrested and killed.
The rest of the movies will show up to that point.
Though I have another project in which the Militant gets so much focused on defending the truth that he forgets truth himself, and becomes an atheist: the Resolute.

    That's beside the point.

  4. Breakdown.

    Intro:
Have some titles explaining the maing points of the BG (See comment below).
Then have pictures of newspapers showing headlines and pics like,

"Fr. Michael Green finally arrested for speaking out against the New Government's law legalizing polygamy worldwide."

"Fr. Rafael Hoppe finally arrested when he lead his congregation in silent protest at Rainbow Center."

"SHOCKING: Several Salut Army agents killed by unknown sniper when they tried to arrest Fr. Hoppe."

"Top Banned Parenthood official donates billions of dollar to Virtual Porn Research Fund."

"SHOCKING: Top Banned Parenthood official killed for giving money to top Porn Fund."

"SHOCKING: Virtual Porn Research Fund headquarters sabotaged"

"New Government commends scientists for finding the cure to AIDS by testing in 300 live infants."

"SHOCKING: team of scientists kidnapped. No further information known."

"The New Government gives OK for the tearing down of the Milan Cathedral and building a Rainbow Center in its place."

"UPDATE: Scientists rescued: 'he would only let us go alive if we would not do any more testing in infants and babies!'"

"UPDATE: Destruction of the Milan Cathedral postponed due to sudden attacks by an unknown terrorist."

"UPDATE: Unknown terrorist linked with other killings and sabotage (killed soldiers at Fr. Hoppe's arrest, killed Banned Parenthood official, kidnapped scientists)."

"The Unknown terrorist identifies himself as 'The Militant.'"

"One of the last Holy Opposition towns is attacked by terrorists. New Government to intervene and rescue the town."

"UPDATE: The Militant and his allies fight off the Salut Army. Small town left alone."
[reference to The Militant - Ave Maria]

    etc....

Well.. You get the point... These would of course be changed to make them look more like actual newspaper headlines, and the content can also change.
The pattern would be to show some "good" news according to the NG, and then show some "Shocking" news of an unknown killer...

We can come up with many of them, sort of random events but that the audience can get through the story of the Militant, and then pick out a few of the best ones...
    I think 4 or 5 is enough...

  5. Nvm...!
We could show all headlines if we have a camera panning through many newspapers in a wall and/or table, and have only 5 of them fully readable, but the audience would be able to still read most of all other headlines...

  6. Breakdown (Cont.)

    Transition from Intro to Main:

After all newspapers and intro credits and titles are shown, the Militant is seeing reading a letter. We can see an open envelope reading "TOP SECRET" or "CONFIDENTIAL."
The camera zooms in to key words that let the audience know that Fr. Brawn will be arrested.
We then see the Militant get up and leave his room.

    Main:

The main scene is basically a touched-up version of the Layout (see video above) with a few minor and major adjustments, such as Fr. Brawn trying to give a blessing to the cops and then trying to stand in front of them so that the Militant doesn't kill the cops.
The scene will be made in a more professional way in everything (the characters, the animation, the camera moves, etc.), and it will be synchronized with the music as much as possible.

    Ending:

This one I'm not so sure about still.
The original idea is to have Brawn and Miles arrested in the main scene, and then show them, arrested, walking through lot of people to be killed publicly in guillotines.

The idea would be to show the scene as cut scenes. E.g., show their feet walking, fade to black; show the crowd, fade to black; show them walking from afar, fade; show the gillotine; fade; show them getting there, fade; show the whole scene, with them and the guillotine seen, and fade slowly, implying their deaths.

Also, as they're walking by, we can see perhaps some women crying because of Brawn's death (allusion to the Weeping Women), but people throwing garbage and spitting at the Militant, showing scorn and being happy he's dead.
Perhaps this last idea needs more thinking because it may be seen that the Militant is being scorned as Christ was, but it's not supposed to show that, but rather that the M's ways were evil and Brawn's ways were good.

The other problem is, should we end it there, or end it in a happier note, like, they are able to escape, or the Militant repents... Maybe he can be shown right before they walk out as kneeling in front of Fr. Brawn, crying and confessing...

    ?

  7. Allusions:

I want to make some allusions to Christ through Fr. Brawn, such as the cops going for him at night, of the cops asking Fr. twice who their looking for, and them being surprised that it's him. We could also have the Militant shoot at one of the cops' ear before he kills the others.
Maybe we can mimic the camera moves of the execution scene as the camera moved in the Passion...
Also having women weeping for Fr. Brawn.

Yes. We definitely need to make it clear that the Militant does repent before he dies.

  8. Ideas-
    Newspaper headings:
"Sexual Intercourse Classes added to high school curriculum.
The new Sexual Intercourse Classes were added to some universities as part of a sexual education research, and once proven to be beneficial for students and the decrease of the spread of STDs and unwanted pregnancies, the Classes were added as a requirement for graduation in all high schools across the globe... Cont. in Page 6."

  9. Titles

In the near future, after the fall of Europe and the US, a new government appeared.
    Hostile to religion.
    Hostile to truth.

In the name of tolerance and fairness, the New Government put many restrictions in religious practice, and made it a capital offense for any religious leader to publicly defy the New Government.

Angry and resolute, a mysterious figure took it on himself to punish the New Government and right the wrongs done by it...

A dark character by the codename...

    ...The Militant...
